A friend of mine convinced me to make a pair of socks, saying that it was quite addictive, so, since I say that about tattoos, I decided to give it a go. The only thing with making socks, you have to use needles that are about 2mm, and very fine yarn. As this was to be my first attempt, I decided to go up a few sizes to 3.25mm (UK 10, US 3) and use double knit yarn (8 ply).
My first yarn of choice was Rico Essentials Cotton DK in yellow and a grey brown, but being cotton, was very unforgiving, and as such I had knitted the cuff and part of the leg and gave up. Next yarn or choice was Wendy Mode DK 50% Merino Wool in blue and black. This last choice was the better as it had more give in it, and was easier to use, so lesson learned there.
I have to admit that Erin’s pattern was that easy to follow, it’s now ingrained into my head, which is no bad thing, but the urge to hunt through my yarn stash and start making more is close to the addiction that my friend mentioned, although he does knit that fast (three pairs this week) that he makes a Chinese sweat shop look quite slow.
Finally, the finished items, which I made for my partner.
